Australia's newest walking track takes in 91 kilometres from Apollo Bay, Victoria, to Glenample, an historic homestead, all part of the Great Ocean Walk.
Because the track is self guided you could walk the whole length or just a portion of the track. If you want accommodation in the area, you can camp in one of the many beautiful camping sites around the national parks.
With Apollo Bay weather being cool and sunny most of the time it is a perfect opportunity to explore the wildlife, heath lands and forests of the Great Otway National Park. The track also overlooks the Marine National Park with its many sightings of seals and other marine life. The local companies and Park Victoria will provide you with a map for your Great Ocean Walk.
Unlike the Great Ocean Road, which leaves the coast behind at times, the Walk stays mainly on the spectacular coast, taking you to the Aire River with its famous bridge and the Cape Otway lighthouse. You will discover some of the many wrecks that abound along this wild coast and end up at the Twelve Apostles, the sandstone pillars carved from the cliff faces by the Great Southern Ocean.
Wander along the Gellibrand River and view Stevenson's Falls. The Triplet Falls are set among some of the best timber of blackwoods, beech and ferns. For a shorter enjoyable walk with some great views over the marine park, try the Ocean View walk. You may be lucky enough to see some kangaroos!
